Fucking Italians cheating at something ? Who would have thought? Guess they will have their asses kicked by a general known as O'Conner in 1940. Go back to Italy, and stay there.

Thomas Chalmers FRSE (17 March 1780 - 31 May 1847), was a Scottish Presbyterian minister, professor of theology, political economist, and a leader of both the Church of Scotland and of the Free Church of Scotland. He has been called "Scotland's greatest nineteenth- century churchman. " That there are many honest souls who are yet in darkness, and have thus far incurred no guilt by being so, is doubtless true. But no man passes through life, without his opportunities; and for these he becomes responsible. If there are any who, like us, have had in times past, perplexing queries arise in their own minds concerning this matter, we think they will not find a perusal of the article unprofitable. - ED. REVIEW.]. ARSH - December 18, 1856, page 52.8. THE lurking, specious, soul-destroying error, "No matter what a man believes, if he is only sincere," is ably exposed by Dr. Chalmers in a letter to a female friend: "Lord Byron's assertion, that 'man is not responsible for his belief,' seems to have proceeded from the imagination that belief is in no case voluntary. Now, it is very true that we are only responsible for what is voluntary; and it is also true that we cannot believe without evidence. But then it is a very possible thing that a doctrine may possess the most abundant evidence, and yet not be believed, because we choose to shut our eyes against it; and our unbelief in this case is owing, not to the want of evidence, but of the evidence not being attended to. Grant enough for the refutation of Lord Byron's principle, if attention be a voluntary act. One attends to a subject because he chooses; or he does not attend because he so chooses. It is the fact of the attention being given or withheld, which forms the thing that is to be morally reckoned with. And if the attention has been withheld when it ought to have been given, for this we are the subjects of a rightful condemnation.

Blue laws (also known as Sunday laws, Sunday trade laws, and Sunday closing laws) are laws restricting or banning certain activities on specified days, usually Sundays in the western world. The laws were adopted originally for religious reasons, specifically to promote the observance of the Christian day of worship. Since then, they have come to serve secular purposes as well. Blue laws commonly ban certain business and recreational activities on Sundays, and impose restrictions on the retail sale of hard goods and consumables, particularly alcoholic beverages. The laws also place limitations on a range of other endeavors-including travel, fashions, hunting, professional sports, stage performances, movie showings, and gambling. While less prevalent today, blue laws continue to be enforced in parts of the United States and Canada as well as in European countries, such as Austria, Germany, Norway, and Poland, where most stores are required to close on Sundays. In the United States, the Supreme Court has upheld blue laws as constitutional, recognizing their religious origins but are supported by secular justifications. This has resulted to the provision of a day of rest for the general population. Meanwhile, various state courts have struck down the laws as either unenforceable or in violation of their states' constitutions. In response, state legislators have re-enacted certain Sunday laws to satisfy the rulings while allowing some of the other statutes to remain on the books with no intention to enforce them.

I was an excellent distance runner in the early 80's. I ran 2:49 for the marathon and 34 minutes for 10 kilometers. I watched this movie and I felt sick, I did not like it at all. At the time there was a highschool cross country team in Orange County, CA that changed their uniforms to mimic the actors in the film.

That cut to Abrahams (Ben Cross) is a great dramatic moment. His face shows that he "gets it" now, and watches with deep admiration for what he's seeing. Such a small thing, but also a great thing.

It's one of the best true stories. He is remembered for honoring God rather than getting a gold medal. Who remembers 100 meter gold olympic medalists in 1990's or even 2000's. In the future, we might not even have Olympics due to climate problems or be united in Christ. We might even be on Mars. That time might not be far in the future.

The fact that Eric Liddell was willing to give it all up to honor God by not competing on Sunday is amazing--and even more that he was given another chance at a medal and won the gold in an event he was not favored to win. I'm not sure I could imagine what that would be like if someone did that today

Eric Liddell was an inspirational man and the courtesy with which he treated his fellow competitors is beautifully portrayed. If you had never known anything about him, this film would inspire you to learn more, and Ian Charleson portrayed him superbly. I've watched the film countless times and always end up sobbing.

Fun Fact about this amazing video that I just discovered... The runner falling at 3.03 was based on an actual runner who fell at the end of this grueling race. Clearly, the director wanted to make this great film as realistic as possible and this feature seals the deal for me. Check it out!

I can't help but feel an amazing gratitude to God for allowing us the power to inspire each other and entice to believe that we can all live at a higher, more glorious, more dignified, more principled, more self denying and benevolent for plane. Any act you do, any of you, any of us, that stands for eternal and unchanging principles reconfirms to all of us that we are all equal to live under the same dignity and opportunity for joy and fulfillment circumscribed by those principles and their unalterable harvests.

I love looking at movies depictions of real sporting events to see how close to the real thing it is. The depiction of the race is pretty much bang on the money, right down to the detail of John Coard Taylor falling just before the finish line. And yet, by the same token, they removed the other British athlete, Guy Butler, who won Bronze, and replace him with a Swede. I'm sure there must have been a reason for this. They also depict the Swiss, Josef Imbach completing the race. He actually fell on the turn into the home straight, so hot was the pace set by Liddle that day.
